The guy above is Ivan! His family is one of the families that Diaconia built a water tank for. In our visit to his house he told us a little bit about his life and how is life for people who lives in the sertão. He basically wake up early to work and go to bed early. He has a fruit plantation that he uses to sell the fruits pulp to make juice :). The function of the tanks is to retain the water when it rains and then used for the plantations and other necessities inside the house.
Interesting fact we asked him what they do for fun and he explained us that they have kind of this shower in the middle of the plantations they play with it. How ironic in a place that needs water. Also he told me he love international artists that he has cds what is weird because Brazilians only hear Brazilian music and some American music. By the way he loves Shakira so she is even famous in the parts of Brazil where cable is not common.
Besides the tank water he had this biodigestor I think that is the name or close. It basically takes cow feces and converted in gas to cook and then what is left can be use as a natural ferment for the plans how cool is that!
Underneath is just a beautiful flower a little girl showed me and it smelled like honey :D
These pictures have some of the fruits we saw in our tour through the plantation:
First: graviolas! if you are Dominican these are guanabanas! and they were huge and delicious!
Graviolas
Acerela or cereza!
Bananas!
Yes these are avocados, not the little things we have in Utah!
Avocados
Finally, our delicious meal prepared by Ivan's family. They were far away from being rich, but they were the most friendly and giving people i have met. We ask Ivan why he does not export his fruits because they are delicious and he said there was a lot of people there that needed them :). How thoughtful of him.
